to write is such a gift. i admire the people who work hard to write words that may or may not ever be read. to write story, to make other people care about your story, that is something that fascinates me. i'm reading a novel right now that has taught me so many things. I've been thinking about writing children's books, how i want to. how i think that children's stories are so important, because they shape the world. they shape of the thoughts of the youngest and most important people. I remember when i was little, i read roald dahl, and then when i wanted to write my own things, roald dahl was my teacher, I wanted to write like him. now i want to write like so many of the people i've read, which i suppose makes my writing my own, a product of all the voices that have spoken to me.

I've always wanted to write children's books. Why in the world haven't I? I used to when I WAS a child...where did they go?? I used to write music when I was a little girl -- my mom would buy me little composition books and I'd sit at the piano and write the notes that I played down. Where did those go?? If you want to write books, DO it! Don't wait and wait like I did until your brain goes fuzzy. You're a wonderful storyteller, Ashley. Tell your stories to little people!

I love the childrens book room most of all at the library. So does Bou. I remember all of the stories my mom would check out at the library that were full of vivid imagery, illustrations that enticed my senses and childrens multicultural books...

Stone Soup, Rachenka's Eggs, It's Raining Meatballs (or something like that), The book about the boy his father and the volcano...

Childrens books inspire me to live life in a friendlier way.

Mother Bear, I'd like to read your Simon and Z-bot tales on your blog. If you ever get a chance.
