I LOVE YURI NORSTEIN! Hedgehog in the Fog is one of my favorite movies... This is a cool one made with Russian ikons (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7957032990511748296&hl=en). You should check out Jiri Trnka, Karel Zeman, Jan Lenica, Kihachiro Kawamoto, Jiri Barta, Vadim Kurchevsky, and Ladislas Starewicz. Maybe Jan Svankmajer, too, though he's admittedly odd/disturbing. They're all on youtube.
Norstein may be the most poignant and poetic of them all.
